Does FSR 4 work on Radeon RX 7000 cards?

Last verified September 2026Tested against AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1, AMD FSR "Redstone", AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.7.1, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.9.1Well documented
Partially

The upscaler crosses over; the rest of the suite does not. AMD added FSR Upscaling 4.1 for the Radeon RX 7000 Series in Adrenalin 26.6.2, so RDNA 3 owners get the ML-based upscaler in over 300 games. But the other FSR "Redstone" features — ML-based frame generation and ray regeneration — remain listed for RX 9000 Series and above, and RX 6000 owners are told to wait for 2027.

What you need

  • A Radeon RX 7000 Series card or newer. AMD lists FSR Upscaling as available exclusively on the RX 7000 and RX 9000 Series.
  • AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 or newer — that is the release that added FSR Upscaling 4.1 for RX 7000 cards.
  • On Windows 10, Adrenalin 26.7.1 or newer. 26.7.1 fixed intermittent crashes in some games with FSR Upscaling 4.1 enabled on RX 7000 cards under Windows 10.
  • A game that already integrates AMD FSR 3.1 or higher. The driver upgrades an existing FSR 3.1 integration; it cannot add FSR to a game that lacks it.
  • For an upgrade to ML-based frame generation rather than upscaling, the game needs AMD FSR 3.1.4 or higher — and a card AMD lists for that feature, which RX 7000 is not.

Supported on

  • Radeon RX 7000 Series (RDNA 3) — ML-based upscaling only
  • Radeon RX 9000 Series (RDNA 4) — the full FSR "Redstone" suite
  • Windows 11 with Adrenalin 26.6.2 or newer
  • Windows 10 with Adrenalin 26.7.1 or newer

Limitations

  • Only the upscaler travels down a generation. AMD's hardware matrix lists ML-based upscaling for RX 7000 Series and above, but ML-based frame generation and ML-based ray regeneration for RX 9000 Series and above.
  • Radeon RX 6000 Series (RDNA 2) is not supported today. AMD says support for RX 6000 graphics is launching in 2027, so any guide telling you it works now is wrong.
  • The name changed. FSR 4 is now called FSR Upscaling, which is the label to look for in AMD Software — though AMD notes some game menus still show the old FSR 4 name.
  • A game stuck on FSR 3.0 or older cannot be upgraded from the driver at all. FSR 3.1 is the floor.
  • The feature has two separate switches: the AMD Software toggle and the game's own FSR setting. Turning on only one leaves you on the old upscaler with no error to tell you so.

How to set it up

  1. Update to AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 or newer — and 26.7.1 or newer if you are on Windows 10, where earlier builds could crash some games with FSR Upscaling 4.1 enabled.
  2. Close the game completely. AMD's own instructions have you change these settings with the game not running.
  3. Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, select the Gaming tab, then the Graphics sub tab to reach the global graphics settings.
  4. Turn on the AMD FSR Upscaling toggle. AMD also recommends enabling Radeon Anti-Lag 2 in games that support it.
  5. Launch the game and turn on AMD FSR 3.1 in its own graphics or video options if it is not already on, then pick the upscaling quality preset you want there. The driver upgrades that integration to the ML-based upscaler.

Known problems

  • The FSR setting in a game's menu still reads "AMD FSR 4" rather than "FSR Upscaling". AMD documents this as expected in some titles — it is the same feature under its old name.
  • Games crash intermittently with FSR Upscaling 4.1 enabled on an RX 7000 card under Windows 10. AMD fixed this in Adrenalin 26.7.1; update if you are on an earlier build.
  • The AMD FSR Upscaling toggle appears to do nothing. The usual cause is a game that integrates FSR 3.0 or older, which cannot be upgraded, or the in-game FSR 3.1 option still being switched off.
  • ML-based frame generation stays unavailable no matter what you toggle. On RX 7000 this is intended: AMD lists that feature for RX 9000 Series and above.

Alternatives

  • FSR 3 frame generation: RX 7000 cannot use the ML-based frame generation in FSR "Redstone", but AMD's matrix lists FSR 3 frame generation as supported on RX 5000 Series and above — so RDNA 3 still has a frame generation path, just not the ML one.
  • Staying on FSR 3.1: The upgrade is a toggle, not a one-way door. If you prefer how a game looks or runs on its stock FSR 3.1 integration, turn AMD FSR Upscaling back off and the game reverts to it.
  • A Radeon RX 9000 Series card: The only way to get the rest of FSR "Redstone" — ML-based frame generation, ray regeneration and radiance caching — since AMD lists those for RX 9000 and above.

Common questions

Is FSR 4 the same thing as FSR Upscaling?
Yes. AMD renamed FSR 4 to FSR Upscaling to separate it from the other features in the FSR "Redstone" suite. AMD notes that some games' settings menus still show the older FSR 4 name, so you may see both words for one feature.
Which driver do I need on an RX 7000 card?
Adrenalin 26.6.2 or newer, which is the release where AMD added FSR Upscaling 4.1 for RX 7000 cards. On Windows 10 go to 26.7.1 or newer — that release fixed intermittent game crashes with FSR Upscaling 4.1 enabled on RX 7000 products.
Will my RX 6800 or RX 6700 XT get FSR 4?
Not yet. AMD states that FSR Upscaling support for the RX 6000 Series is launching in 2027. Until then RDNA 2 cards are limited to FSR 3 and earlier, whatever third-party guides claim.
Do I get frame generation as well on an RX 7000 card?
Not the ML-based version. AMD's hardware matrix lists ML-based frame generation for RX 9000 Series and above, and gives RX 7000 "Upscaling Only". You can still use FSR 3 frame generation, which AMD lists for RX 5000 Series and above.
Why does turning it on in AMD Software change nothing?
Two switches have to line up. The AMD Software toggle only upgrades a game that already integrates AMD FSR 3.1 or higher, and that game's own FSR option still has to be enabled. A title on FSR 3.0 or older cannot be upgraded from the driver.
How many games actually support it?
AMD puts FSR Upscaling 4.1 at over 300 supported games. That count covers titles you upgrade through AMD Software as well as those that integrate ML-based FSR Upscaling natively in their own menus.
