AMD Adrenalin install fails at the AI Bundle step
The AI Bundle is an optional add-on bundled into the same installer as the Radeon graphics driver, and it pulls its components from third-party sites. AMD has listed "failure to install may be observed while installing AI Bundle components in some regions with limited access to HuggingFace and GitHub" as an open known issue in every Adrenalin release from 26.6.1 through the current 26.9.2, so waiting for a newer driver will not fix it. Re-run setup, click Additional Options instead of Accept & Express Install, choose Custom Install and leave AI Bundle unticked. The graphics driver itself does not need the bundle.
Start here
Adrenalin's installer presents the graphics driver and AMD's AI tooling as one download, so when the AI half cannot reach the servers it needs, the whole install looks broken. It usually is not. Separating the two is the fix, and AMD documents both halves - just never on the same page.
Symptoms
- The AMD Software installer runs for a long time and then reports a failure after the graphics driver portion appears to finish
- Setup stalls while downloading or installing AI Bundle components such as ComfyUI, Ollama, LM Studio, Amuse or PyTorch
- The install fails repeatedly on a connection that otherwise works, particularly where HuggingFace or GitHub are blocked or throttled
- Retrying Accept & Express Install produces the same failure every time
- Some AI Bundle applications appear in Installed apps even though setup reported a failure
Why this happens
The AI Bundle downloads from third-party sites, not from AMD
AMD's AI Bundle FAQ states that an internet connection is required to install the bundle "since some of the components require 3rd party resources which are hosted on the developer's website". The Adrenalin release notes name the specific dependency: installs can fail "in some regions with limited access to HuggingFace and GitHub". So the reachability that matters is not AMD's own servers but those of the individual AI projects. On a network where those hosts are blocked, filtered by a corporate proxy, or simply unreliable, the bundle's downloads fail while everything else about the install is fine.
Re-run setup and deselect the AI Bundle under Custom Install · Use AMD Install Manager to add components one at a time · Install the AI tools you actually want from their own projects
An optional add-on rides in the same installer as the driver
The AI Bundle was introduced in Adrenalin 26.1.1 and AMD describes it as "an optional feature" that you "simply check" during the Adrenalin install. Because it is a checkbox inside the same setup run rather than a separate download, a failure in an optional AI component surfaces as a failed AMD Software install, with nothing on screen distinguishing the two. Readers reasonably conclude their graphics driver will not install, and start on destructive remedies such as a full clean sweep of the driver stack, when the driver was never the problem.

Fixes
Confirm it is the AI Bundle and not a different installer error
about 5 minAMD's installer has its own numbered errors with unrelated causes, and treating one as the other wastes the next hour.
Applies to: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.1.1 and later, Windows 10, Windows 11
- Note any error number the installer showed. If it was Error 195, stop here - AMD attributes that to the installer being unable to reach web resources on AMD's own servers, caused by antivirus, firewall settings or AMD server maintenance. That is a different problem from the AI Bundle issue and AMD's own article for it lists the steps.
- Open the AMD Software Installer log and look at where it stopped. AMD documents its location.
C:\Program Files\AMD\CIM\Log\Install.log - Check whether the failure sits alongside AI Bundle component names - ComfyUI, Ollama, LM Studio, Amuse, PyTorch or Python. Those five applications plus Python and Visual Studio Code are what AMD lists as the bundle's contents, and none of them are part of the graphics driver.
- Open Windows Settings, then Installed apps, and check whether a Radeon display driver is already present. A failure that happened at the AI Bundle stage often leaves a working graphics driver behind it.
Confirmed by the vendor.
Re-run setup and deselect the AI Bundle under Custom Install
about 15 minThe bundle is optional, so removing it from the run removes the component that cannot reach its downloads.
Applies to: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.1.1 and later on a system where the AI Bundle option is offered
- Run the Adrenalin installer again and let it unpack to the default location.
- At the point where the installer offers Accept & Express Install, click Additional Options instead. Express install uses default settings and is what pulls the AI Bundle in on a supported system.
- Choose Custom Install. AMD documents the selectable components here as AMD Software and AI Bundle.
- Leave AMD Software ticked and leave AI Bundle unticked.
- Continue with Accept & Install. AMD notes it is normal for the display to flicker momentarily while the driver is applied.
- If you want a smaller install still, Software Type offers Default, Minimal and Driver Only. Driver Only provides no user interface for AMD Software features, so pick it only if you do not want the Adrenalin control panel at all.
Confirmed by the vendor.
Use AMD Install Manager to add components one at a time
about 20 minInstalling components individually keeps one blocked download from taking the rest of the run with it.
Applies to: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.1.1 and later
- Run setup, click Additional Options, and select Custom Install with AMD Software selected. AMD notes the next step is only available in that state.
- Click Manage Downloads to launch the AMD Install Manager.
- Click Install for each component you want, one at a time, rather than accepting everything at once. The per-application sizes are visible here, which also tells you what you are committing to - AMD puts the full AI Bundle at roughly 35GB.
- If a specific AI component fails, leave it out and install the rest. You can come back and add it later from the same screen once the network it needs is reachable.
Install the AI tools you actually want from their own projects
about 40 minThe bundle is a convenience wrapper around separate third-party applications, each of which has its own installer.
Applies to: Any system where the AI Bundle will not install
- Decide which of the bundle's tools you actually need. AMD lists the contents as PyTorch on Windows (with Visual Studio Code and Python 3.12.0), ComfyUI, Ollama, LM Studio and Amuse.
- Install those individually from each project's own documentation - AMD's AI Bundle FAQ links the get-started guide for each one. This sidesteps the bundle installer entirely.
- Note that this gets you the applications, not necessarily the exact versions and ROCm-on-Windows pairing AMD ships in the bundle. If you specifically need AMD's validated PyTorch ROCm stack, prefer retrying the bundle from a network that can reach the required hosts.
Clear out a half-installed AI Bundle before retrying
Check before applyingabout 15 minA failed run can leave some bundle applications behind, which muddies what the next attempt is actually doing.
Applies to: Systems where an AI Bundle install failed partway through
Before you do this
These steps delete folders by hand, and two of them - Python 3.12.0 and Visual Studio Code - are ordinary applications you may have installed yourself for unrelated work. Removing a Python installation that other software depends on will break that software. Check what is actually yours before deleting anything, and do not run these steps unless a failed AI Bundle install is the thing you are cleaning up.
- Check Windows Settings, then Installed apps, for Amuse, LM Studio, Ollama, Python 3.12.0 and Visual Studio Code. AMD states these five can be uninstalled individually from there.
- Only remove Python 3.12.0 and Visual Studio Code if the AI Bundle installed them. If you already used Python or VS Code for your own work, leave them alone - removing them will break your existing setup.
- To remove ComfyUI, enable hidden items in File Explorer under View, then Show, then delete the ComfyUI folder at this location.
C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\AMD\AI_Bundle\ - To remove the PyTorch libraries the bundle installed, delete the Python312 folder at this location - again, only if the bundle put it there.
C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\ - Re-run the installer with AI Bundle deselected, as above.

Known issues
AMD lists "Failure to install may be observed while installing AI Bundle components in some regions with limited access to HuggingFace and GitHub" as an open Known Issue. The wording is identical in the Adrenalin 26.6.1, 26.7.1, 26.8.1, 26.9.1 and 26.9.2 release notes, and it was still open in 26.9.2 (last updated 29 September 2026), the current release as of this article's verification date. Updating to a newer driver has not resolved it so far.
Affects AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.1, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.7.1, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.8.1, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.9.1, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.9.2 · Status: open
AMD's note describes the failure as occurring "while installing AI Bundle components". AMD does not state whether the graphics driver portion of the same run completes or is rolled back, and we could not establish that from AMD's documentation, so check Installed apps rather than assuming either way.

If none of this worked
If the installer gave you Error 195, that is AMD's own documented error for being unable to reach web resources on AMD servers - it points at antivirus, firewall settings or AMD server maintenance, not at the AI Bundle, and AMD's article for it has the steps. Error 194 and Error 196 are likewise separate documented failures. If you were never offered an AI Bundle checkbox at all, this article does not apply: AMD supports the bundle only on Radeon RX 9000 Series, Radeon RX 7700 Series and higher, and Ryzen AI Max, AI 400 and AI 300 Series processors, and only from Adrenalin 26.1.1 onward. If setup fails before any component list appears, or reports a previous AMD installation that will not uninstall, that is the Error 1604 path instead. Finally, the full AI Bundle wants roughly 35GB free - a machine short on disk can fail here for a reason that has nothing to do with which hosts it can reach.
Common questions
- Do I need the AI Bundle to play games?
- No. AMD describes the AI Bundle as an optional feature of the Adrenalin application, introduced in 26.1.1. It contains PyTorch, ComfyUI, Ollama, LM Studio and Amuse - AI development and creative tools. None of it is part of the graphics driver, and deselecting it does not affect gaming performance or features.
- Will a newer driver fix this?
- It has not so far. The same known issue, in identical wording, appears in AMD's release notes for 26.6.1, 26.7.1, 26.8.1 and 26.9.1. As of 22 September 2026 the current release is 26.9.1 and the issue is still listed as open, so installing the newest driver is not a workaround in itself.
- Can I add the AI Bundle later once my network can reach those sites?
- Yes. Re-run the Adrenalin installer, choose Additional Options, then Custom Install with AMD Software selected, and click Manage Downloads to open the AMD Install Manager. From there you click Install for each component you want to install or update.
- How much disk space does the AI Bundle need?
- AMD puts the full AI Bundle at approximately 35GB. You can see the size of each individual application using the Custom Install or AMD Installer Manager options during setup, which is worth doing before committing to the whole thing.
- Why does AMD name HuggingFace and GitHub specifically?
- Because the bundle does not host its own payloads. AMD's FAQ says an internet connection is required because some components require third-party resources hosted on the developer's website, and the release notes identify HuggingFace and GitHub as the hosts whose limited availability causes the install to fail.
